The Laureus Mission

    To change the world, we need to keep moving. In accordance with this principle, the Mercedes-Benz brand has been committed to sports for decades. The Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, which was co-founded in 2000 by Daimler AG, is the company’s central project in the area of corporate social responsibility.

    The foundation supports sports projects around the world that have the goal of offering a better future to socioeconomically disadvantaged children and adolescents. Sports are to help them exercise, overcome limits, surpass what they were previously able to achieve, and believe in their own abilities. In this way we want to encourage them to develop their own potential.

    More than 50 members of the Laureus World Sports Academy and some 150 Laureus Ambassadors worldwide dedicate themselves to the objectives of the organization – including some of the greatest athletes of all time. They visit projects in the field to get children and adolescents excited about sports and to draw attention to socioeconomic challenges. Once a year the members also give out the Laureus World Sports Awards for outstanding sporting achievements. The award ceremony will be broadcast live in 180 countries, giving Laureus further attention, which brings more donations in the best case. These funds can in turn be used for additional projects.

    Since its inception, the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation has been able to generate donations totalling 85 million euros, allowing it to benefit more than 1.5 million children and adolescents. Currently it is supporting more than 150 projects around the world.
